Sydenham Garden
Our legacy partner, Sydenham Garden, is a charity offering a unique wellbeing centre utilising its gardens, nature reserve and activity rooms to support the needs of people living with mental health difficulties and those with dementia in the South London community. Their two gardens and nature reserve provide the backdrop for people to use horticulture and nature to improve their wellbeing and become part of a community through various project groups. People are able to take up a 12-month placement and become a ‘co-worker’ with them whereby they attend a weekly session within their gardens as part of an inclusive group, led by experienced Project Leads and supported by local volunteers. During these sessions, as well as the gardening, art & craft and cooking activities, they can even work to achieve recognised qualifications if they wish. There are also groups for young people 18-25 and people in the early stages of dementia. Our lovely image shows some of their co-workers from the African & Caribbean Project with their tie-dye creations.
